FTP - Web Support for schools?
YAH! I have requested to have ftp support rights to school web pages. This will allow me to help schools in publishing to their websites and helping with staff training. It has always been a difficulty when needing to help teachers but not being able to see what was already created in their folders.
So now that Tina did that for me (Yeah Tina!!) I need to organize that staff training/development. Should it be done at individual schools? Should it be for the principals? Should it be for the teachers? hummm I think that is a discussion for Kathy Bebe??!! I wonder if that is the right place to start?
Pringle is first I guess since we have been working through February. So let's start there and see how it works!
Opening up blogspot
I met with Steven and Melissa this morning to discuss the need for opening blogspot. This is an educational need for schools to publish blog information for parents. It is also a way for kids around the district to communicate about things with each other in a supervised environment!
Steven and I talked about the need (or is there a need?) for an internal piece of software for use with blogs. Should we be making our own? Should we use the free services that are out there? What can we do with our own that we can't do out there?
David P. is helping with this process and I need to schedule some seat time to play with these tools!
TESA - How can Schools get information to parents?
If the parents are asking for the information how does the school provide those results. If the schools are going to give out the information then we should be offering them a way to get that out to families. Schools will move ahead in their own direction if we don't give them the vehicle. Do we want them to use a standard process? Do we want them to remind parents that those are preliminary results?
Sue, Catherine and I talked today about helping those that ask but not sending out a blanket invitation. Now we have found several schools have already found ways to get that information out to families. Will this come back to get us?
Sue and I are working on two different ways to get this tool out. Should it be a database? Should it be a spreadsheet? Should it be a data merge? This is a fun puzzle!
3/7/05 - Houck - Inservice training
Rod and I met this morning to discuss web page training at Houck. he has the whole half day inservice time to do a little bit with smartboards and then an hour and a half with web design. he is doing webpages for each teacher, created by him but not built on a template.
It is so fun to debate with him and disagree with someone. His method doesn't make sense to me but it is his school and they will all grow together! :) We have a little plan and I need to write up the agenda for the day.
The beginning
I have started and restarted this blog many times. I decided that now that it can be read in district, it was time to publish it and keep it going. Let's see if it works this time.
My intent is to have a place to document what I'm doing. Maybe it will be too much work? maybe it will be great? I dunno!!?? Let's see!
